Fosphenytoin
medication Under reviewA prodrug of phenytoin used as an anticonvulsant for the control of generalized tonic-clonic status epilepticus.
Research summary
In healthy human subjects, fosphenytoin has not been studied as a supplement for performance, cognition, or wellness. The available human evidence is almost entirely from clinical use in patients with seizures or perioperative settings, where it shows expected antiseizure pharmacology and a safety profile shaped by conversion to phenytoin. Across labeling and comparative clinical studies, common adverse effects include pruritus, dizziness, headache, fatigue, tremor, hypotension, nystagmus, ataxia, vomiting, and rash. Because the evidence base is disease-treatment focused rather than healthy-volunteer focused, there is no credible healthy-subject evidence for any supplement-like benefit.
