Lansoprazole
medication Under reviewA proton pump inhibitor (PPI) medication used to reduce stomach acid production.
Research summary
The human evidence base for lansoprazole is strong for acid suppression and symptom relief in GERD and other acid-related disorders, but those are treatment uses rather than benefits for healthy subjects. In healthy adults, pharmacology and safety data show predictable acid suppression and generally good short-term tolerability, with common adverse effects being mostly gastrointestinal or mild neurologic symptoms. For healthy human subjects specifically, there is little evidence of performance, cognitive, metabolic, or longevity benefits. The main research consensus is that lansoprazole is an effective prescription acid-suppressing drug with a known interaction profile and a generally acceptable short-term safety record, but it should not be treated as a supplement for optimization in healthy individuals.
